Position Summary

Prairie State College seeks an experienced bilingual part-time hourly instructor to teach Food Sanitation course in Spanish during the evening. Course instruction focuses on the basics of learning and communicating in Spanish in order to successfully pass the ServSafe Food Certification. Successful candidates will have a desire to engage a diverse student population.

Reporting Relationship

Corporate and Continuing Education Department.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Instructional/Training in Spanish experience required
2. Plan for instructional activities supporting curriculum.
3. Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable manner covering all objectives outlined in the training program in Spanish.
4. Use appropriate assessment tools to ensure learning in English and Spanish.
5. Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance.
6. Effectively communication with students to help them achieve their educational goals in Spanish.
7. Proctor the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Communicates expectations by developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
• Designs and develops curriculum, instructional material, coordinates educational content, and evaluates current content.
• Maintains accurate records of attendance, grades, and progress reports of students, completes timesheets and follows all instructor expectations listed in the instructor agreement.
• Attends all scheduled in-service activity meetings and maintains a clean, effective and professional learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
2. Must communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
3. Experience teaching bi-lingual courses, preferably at the community college level.
4. Associate Degree.
5. Possess the ServSafe Protection Instructor Certification to administer the exam.
6. Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification by State of Illinois.
7. Experience working with culturally and intellectually diverse group.
8. Ability to create diverse teaching methods.

1. Bachelor’s Degree
