Position Summary

Prairie State College seeks an experienced part-time instructor to teach SOCMA Chemical Process Operator curriculum. The instructor will actively participate in the development and updates of the competency-based curriculum and instructional materials associated with the training program. The instructor will also assist administration in the purchasing and maintenance of associated equipment and supporting training aids and media.
As a subject matter expert, the instructor will give recommendations for the planning, budgeting, and management process for the program, and assist in program evaluation, post completion student follow-up for the college, state and accrediting agencies. There will be periodic meetings with industry and related organizations.

Reporting Relationship

Direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Business and Industry Partnerships and direct working relationship with the Training and Events Coordinator.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Assists in the recruitment and retention of students.
2. Builds positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
3. Possesses a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
4. Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and oral.
5. Instructs and supervises students in a classroom and/or laboratory setting at various times and locations.
6. Ensures learning outcomes are met and aligned with course objectives and outcomes.
7. Utilizes technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
8. Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
9. Prepares, submits and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
10. Advises students in academic matters or refers students to appropriate resources.
11. Assesses students’ performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner.
12. Engages students through classroom and college electronic communication.
13. Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions and departments.
14. Provides recommendations to the appropriate college liaisons regarding curriculum, instruction and scheduling of training.
15. Exhibits a commitment to college policies and procedures.
16. Attends institutional meetings as required and able.
17. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent industry experience
• Previous experience delivering classroom instruction
• Previous chemical/refinery process operations experience
• Infectious, engaging attitude, willingness to share knowledge and experience
• Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to multitask and support and track a variety of projects simultaneously.
• Experience working in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree
2. Bilingual
3. Three years of related industrial experience
