Position Summary

Serves as the recruiter for the Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success program and its delivery of services to: current and prospective students, alumni, and employers being served under the grant program. Grant funded through the Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.

Reporting and Supervisory Relationships

Direct reporting relationship to the Manager of Transportation, Warehouse and Logistics and grant management from the Dean of Corporate and Continuing Education.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Promotes and assists with oversight of Transportation, Warehousing and Logistics programming aligned with the Adult Apprenticeship Plus initiative.

2. Collaborates with employers to determine workforce needs and implement the Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success program.

3. Provides academic and career advising to current and prospective grant students.

4. Works with members of the college and community partners to assess and determine supportive services for participant and employment retention success.

5. Designs and implements career development related workshops and classroom presentations for the college workforce, industry, and community who are participating in the grant initiative.

6. Administers and teaches grant students to effectively utilize career interest systems, and other resources that aid in the career development process.

7. Coordinates with grant project staff to develop and maintain brochures, handouts, and transition guides to provide accurate information to program participants.

8. Monitors and tracks successful grant measures and outcomes.

9. Develops a working knowledge of the grant and college policies, procedures, academic programs, and services.

10. Creates student academic plans and employment career plans for successful participant completion.

11. Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, and community events to promote Driving Toward Apprenticeship Success program.

13. Assists the Apprenticeship Coordinator and designated grant employees with participant and program success.

14. Assesses and provides solutions and referrals to participants’ barriers.

15. Initiates and maintains collaborative working relationships with instructors, students, staff, partnering agencies, employers, employees and the community at large.

16. Assists with intake, eligibility and case management.

17. Identifies and delivers outreach and retention strategies in support of student and grant success.

18. Flexible scheduling required, including some evening and weekend hours.

19. Performs other duties as assigned that align with the scope of the grant initiative.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

This position will frequently travel between college locations and employer sites on a daily basis. The employee typically works indoors in an environment protected from the weather. With some frequency, travel is required to meet with employers, current and prospective students at a site other than Prairie State College. Physical activities include the ability to carry appropriate recruitment materials sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Experience in recruitment or related area of higher education.

3. Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds.

4. Ability to provide for personal travel.

5. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with solid proficiency with computer software.

6. Evidence of commitment and ability to work in teams with ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Graduate degree in student personnel or a related field.

2. Career advising experience in a community college setting.

3. Experience with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.
